We are delighted that our short film, Reflections Behind Bars, has been officially selected to be screened at SXSW EDU in Austin, Texas. Â SXSW EDU, a component of the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival series, is an annual convening taking place March 9-12, 2026, showcasing the intersection of education, innovation, social impact, and media.
Â
The film will be screened March 11 at 1:30pm at the Austin Downtown Marriott. SXSW EDU festival badge is required for attendance.Â
Â
Filmed inside San Quentin and directed by Emmy & Sundance award winner Jacob Kornbluth, at the center of the film are moving, personal narratives and poems from currently incarcerated individuals, offering an unfiltered look at growing up at the intersection of poverty, violence, and systemic racism. Their voices challenge us to reflect on the impact of incarceration and consider new paths forward. See the trailer here.

Back to the Start will also participate in a panel discussion after the screening, including Executive Director, Dr. Jenny Espinoza, and Co-Founder, Brian Asey Gonsoulin.
